Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.


We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

We are looking for a Regional Advisor to support the Institute’s Great Lakes Region programme.



You will

Programmatic Support
  • Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of EIP’s Great Lakes Programme aimed at preventing or resolving conflicts, with an emphasis on peace process support initiatives aligned with EIP’s Vision, Mission, and Goals.
  • Support the implementation of assigned projects, including planning and process design of dialogue activities, mediation, facilitation and management of large and small events, and preparation and follow up of meetings at various levels.
  • Represent EIP in international, regional, and national forums, contributing expert insights, facilitating strategic dialogue, and fostering multi-stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
  • Conduct and support missions in the Great Lakes region, ensuring close coordination with EIP teams and partners, in compliance with EIP’s organizational policies.
  • Contribute to EIP’s stakeholder engagement within the region, including with state authorities, international NGOs, diplomatic actors, and multilateral organisations present in Kampala and the region, identifying political priorities, strategic interests, and opportunities for collaboration. Provide timely verbal briefings to the team and produce meeting reports to support analysis, coordination, and programme development.
  • When relevant contribute to field-based engagement in Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and neighbouring countries to develop and maintain strong local community networks, and work closely with local stakeholders and conflict parties to inform and advance programme objectives
Research and analysis 
  • Support research and analytical initiatives across the Great Lakes Region, driving high-quality analysis and contributing to the strategic development and expansion of the team’s portfolio.
  • Contribute to the content, planning and execution of relevant policy discussions, leading to the development of strong policy recommendations and process design options.
  • Monitor and analyze national developments, as well as regional and international developments relevant to EIP’s work in the Great Lakes Region; verify and assess information, contribute subject-matter expertise to the team.
Team Coordination and Support
  • Assist with the work of EIP’s local consultants in the region by participating in team meetings and sharing of information and insights. 
  • Contribute to the production of programmatic reports, briefing materials, mappings, and proposals.
  • Participate in team meetings, both remotely and in person, as required.
  • Contribute to fundraising efforts by identifying opportunities in line with the Institute objectives with potential donors active in the Great Lakes region.

Your skills and experience
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, law, peace and conflict studies, or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience working in field of conflict resolution, post-conflict stabilization, diplomacy, humanitarian activities or similar. 
  • Excellent understanding and knowledge of the conflict dynamics in the Great Lakes and related geopolitical developments.
  • Based in the Great Lakes Region and being able to travel within that region.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops or meetings. Experience with mediation and dialogue-related activities is a plus. 
  • Full proficiency in French and English with excellent writing and communication skills is required. 

What we are offering

Consultancy contract from June until December 2026.
