Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.
We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

We are looking for a Senior Advisor to support the Institute’s work in the Middle East, within the Engagement, Dialogue & Process Design Unit (EDP).
You will
- Support the overall design and implementation of assigned project(s), including by monitoring and analysing relevant political, diplomatic and economic developments; by conducting consultations with relevant political actors; and by supporting the preparation of meetings and dialogue sessions.
- Provide timely analysis and bespoke advice – in the form of written briefs, notes, and oral updates – on political and security developments and trends that are relevant for the assigned project(s).
- Support the team in building and maintaining key relationships with relevant stakeholders, including policymakers, diplomats, think tanks and civil society actors.
- Contribute to the team’s fundraising efforts and donor relations.
- Other tasks at the request of the Programme Manager or the Institute’s EDP Unit Director.
Your skills and experience
- Minimum 15 years of experience, 10 of which in the field of diplomacy, political analysis, mediation, mediation-support or dialogue facilitation, with extensive experience working on/ in the Middle East region.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of the politics and international relations across the Middle East, including the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula region, and the subregional conflicts therein.
- Advanced university degree in political science, conflict resolution, international relations, or a related field.
- An understanding of European diplomacy and policies on the region, and familiarity with the functions of and workings of European governments and the EU institutions on foreign policy matters.
- Excellent communication and people skills and the ability to work well in a small team.
- Perfect command of English is necessary. A command of Arabic and/ or Farsi would be an advantage.
