Research analyst, Environment and Gender in Yemen (Service Provider)
—
Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.
We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.
Are you captivated by our innovative approach to peace, and do you want to contribute to the mission of our institute? Do you share our vision for a world where people live in safety and peace because conflicts and grievances are resolved through inclusive dialogue and lasting political agreements?
We are looking for a Research Analyst to support our programmatic work in Yemen. The Analyst will conduct research and prepare technical input documents on the intersection of gender, the environment, climate and peace in Yemen. The research coming out of this consultancy will inform a technical dialogue process aiming at reducing conflict risks related to unsustainable natural resources governance, environmental degradation, and climate change in Yemen. The research will further identify avenues of leveraging women’s leadership, knowledge and experiences for more sustainable environmental governance in Yemen.
Project context
The Environmental Pathways for Reconciliation (EPfR) project uses environmental issues as entry points and elements of creating conditions for sustainable dialogue and stability in Yemen. Engaging different strata of the Yemeni society, the project identifies conflict risks related to unsustainable natural resources governance, environmental degradation, and climate change, and explores ways to reduce them through cooperation and dialogue. The nexus between environmental security concerns and gender-responsive action is at the forefront of the project and is a core element of the design, implementation, and report development of the research conducted through this consultancy. The project is implemented by the Institute's Climate and Environmental Peacemaking Programme (CEPM), in collaboration with the Gender and Peacemaking Programme (GPM).
The Institute is looking for an Analyst with strong analytical and writing skills and a demonstrated ability to apply a gender-sensitive research approach, as well as expertise within the field of environmental peacebuilding and climate security. The Analyst will support the implementation of the technical dialogue process described above through complementary research, analysis, and report writing. The consultant will contribute their expertise and insights to strengthen the technical knowledge of the team and its interlocutors, with a specific emphasis on the role, experiences and obstacles of women in Yemen in relation to environmental governance and environmental peacemaking.
Under the strategic direction of the CEPM and GPM programmes, the Research Analyst will support the implementation of the EPfR project and promote a high level of gender sensitivity and expertise in the process.
