Regional Advisor - Yemen (Service Contract)

Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.


We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

We are looking for a Regional Advisor to support the Institute’s Yemen programme by providing political analysis, stakeholder engagement, and strategic advice, while contributing to the design and implementation of dialogue and peacebuilding activities.



You will
  • Support the Institute in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with relevant Yemeni and regional political actors and stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of programming in Yemen, including the development and implementation of engagement strategies, bilateral engagements and dialogue activities, in close coordination with the team.
  • Monitor and analyse the political, economic, security, or humanitarian situation in Yemen and assess its relevance to project implementation, in coordination with other team members. 
  • Produce or review specialised analysis, mappings or outcome documents — in the form of written briefs, notes, recommendation papers and oral updates — on political and security developments and trends;  on relevant stakeholders and organisations operating in Yemen; on technical or research efforts, i.e. under the Institute’s environment and climate track, and on opportunities for the Institute’s engagement. 
  • Participate in occasional team missions to Yemen, the region and to Brussels/Europe as needed and in accordance with the Institute’s risk and security assessment, to participate in meetings / consultations with key stakeholders and target groups in support of the implementation of dialogue activities.
  • Support technical and research efforts, including for the Institute’s analytical working track on climate and environmental peacemaking.
  • Participate in internal coordination meetings, with occasional travel to Brussels as needed for planning meetings with the project team.  
  • Participate in external briefings, conferences, roundtables, or confidential discussions with regional and international policy makers. 
  • Contribute to the team’s reporting, evaluation, and learning efforts as needed.
  • Other tasks at the request by the Programme Manager or Deputy Executive Director.


Your skills and experience
  • Advanced university degree (PhD) in anthropology, peace and conflict studies, environmental or climate science, international relations, or another relevant discipline.    
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience conducting conflict, political and social analysis in Yemen.
  • Demonstrated professional experience working with Yemeni stakeholders and contributing to peace and security efforts.
  • Demonstrated professional research experience in Yemen.
  • Knowledge about the historical and current political, conflict and environmental context in Yemen is a requirement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, rigorous and critical mindset. Analytical thinking, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated team consisting of two projects, operate effectively under pressure and comply with deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from different backgrounds and cultures, strong interpersonal skills. 


What we are offering

Consultancy contract from September 2026 until August 2028.
