Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.
We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

We are looking for a Finance and Grants trainee to support the Institute’s Operations team.
Your place in the team
The Finance and Grants trainee supports the Operations team and work alongside the Senior Finance Manager, Finance and Grants Officer, Finance and Accounting Assitant, Senior Finance and GDPR Officer to gain a valuable hands-on experience with a variety of finance functions.
You will
- Support the Finance Team to check and compile payment requests for all invoices, expense claims, and partner expenditure;
- Make sure all payments requests are well documented, supported and coded;
- Assist the team in compiling financial reports for their projects, inclusive of all necessary supporting documentation;
- Maintain and keep all finance files updated making sure that on a daily basis all the relevant accounting documents are filed correctly and in a timely manner;
- Help the finance team during audit in providing the required documents;
- Ensure that all partners’ financial supporting documentation and reports are correctly filed under the project file;
- Review the partner expenditure report and ensure they are complete and correctly coded for upload into the Accounting system;
- Process financial transactions in the accounting software.
Your skills and experience
- Relevant studies in accounting or finance;
- Some previous experience in Finance is a plus;
- Good command of English. Knowledge of Spanish is a plus;
- Motivation and enthusiasm to start a career in Finance;
- Knowledge of Belgian bookkeeping standards would be an asset;
- IT literate, especially good knowledge of Excel; preferably experienced with accounting software;
- Organised and methodical, self-disciplined with excellent attention to detail and an ability to meet deadlines;
- Detail-oriented and able to demonstrate careful attention to routine systems and procedures;
- Good interpersonal skills and showing integrity at all times;
- Entitled to work in Belgium (Belgian or EU citizen or currently in possession of a valid Belgian work permit).
What we are offering
- An exciting Traineeship in an international environment (18 nationalities represented at the Brussels Office)
- A six-month full-time paid traineeship under the Belgian CIP framework (Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle)
- Traineeship allowance of 1102 EUR/month, meal vouchers, reimbursement of public transport and telework, and A SIM card
- 40h/week and 1 day of paid leave for every month worked
- The possibility to telework 3 days a week
Expected start date: September 2025.
The selected candidate will need to reside in or relocate to Belgium when the traineeship starts.
