Based in Brussels and active in over a dozen countries, the European Institute of Peace (www.eip.org) is an independent organisation working collaboratively with the parties to the conflict, those who represent people suffering from insecurity or at risk of violence, as well as European decision-makers and the conflict prevention, resolution and mediation community.


We provide practical experience, technical expertise, and policy advice on conflict resolution. We use a variety of tools to help us do this, including analysis, mapping and design of peace processes and agreements, facilitating policy discussions, and proposing practical engagement, for example through inclusive dialogue and mediation support.

We are looking for Senior Advisor to support the team’s current projects in the Middle East and Gulf within the Engagement, Dialogue & Process Design Unit (EDP).



You will
  • Oversee and support the Institute’s engagement in the Israel-Palestine region, providing leadership and strategic advice on the design and implementation of engagements and projects within the Middle East & Gulf Programme. 
  • Contribute to developing high-level contacts and engagement, including by providing entry points to relevant decision-makers and non-state actors; by leading meetings with key partners, donors, and stakeholders; and by participating in and/or chairing policy discussions, roundtables, and dialogues.
  • Engage key stakeholders as part of the design and implementation of the project’s activities, in close coordination with the programme Manager and other members of the programme teams. 
  • Provide technical expertise and advice to the project teams on the design, planning and conduct of its dialogue processes. Participate in internal coordination meetings with the EDP team. 
  • Contribute to identifying and pursuing concrete funding opportunities and partnerships in support of the Institute’s Middle East & Gulf programme. Where useful and necessary, travel to capitals to provide in-person briefings and updates to (potential) donors. 
  • Coordinate closely with the Programme Manager to ensure overall coherence of the EDP Middle East & Gulf programme and advance synergies between the projects within the programme.
  • Contribute to the team’s reporting, evaluation, learning, and fundraising efforts as needed.
  • Other work after consultation with the Programme Manager or at the request of the Institute’s EDP Unit Director/EIP Deputy Executive Director.


Your skills and experience
  • Minimum 25 years of experience, 10 of which spent in the field of diplomacy, mediation, mediation-support, dialogue facilitation or conflict resolution. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the political situation in the Middle East & Gulf region and of the conflict contexts within the region; and of the geopolitical dynamics, diplomatic processes, and developments regarding regional and international policymaking. 
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating dialogue between high-level political actors in the Middle East and Gulf region would be an advantage.
  • Good understanding of European and EU diplomacy, policies, and engagement in the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula region 
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and people skills
  • Perfect command of English and Arabic is necessary; other languages would be an asset.
